If our United States Social Security benefit has already started to arrive in our bank account and we have accepted the Supplemental Security Income payment, we could have two checks in the first week of September. It all depends directly on the collection method we have activated and which group of Social Security retirees we belong to.
Even so, if we have both benefits accepted it is possible that we will get both checks during the month regardless of the exact day. But it is true that it is much better to get this benefit as soon as possible so that we can plan everything related to our household finances. The requirements to get two Social Security payments in the first days of September are:
- Not have Direct Deposit activated.
- Have Supplemental Security Income accepted.
- Have had a Social Security retirement benefit since before May 1997.
The days on which the Social Security Administration sends these checks are August 30th for SSI and September 3rd for retirement payments. The first of these payments has already been sent, but if we do not have Direct Deposit activated we will not get the payment until the first few days of the current week.
Likewise, the other payment, if we are eligible for the September 3rd check, will arrive in the next few days. It is definitely a good idea to check if we are eligible and start planning our expenses and income for the next few weeks.
Can I change my Social Security collection day?
Some United States citizens think that it is possible to change the day they get their Social Security benefit, but the truth is that this is not the case. The reason is the requirements for getting each of these payments. Since these requirements are part of the personal information, it is impossible to change this.

- The year of retirement.
- The day of the birthday.
On the one hand, the key retirement year to belong to one group or another is 1997. Retirees prior to May of that year collect on the 3rd of the month. The rest of the retirees collect on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month, depending on their birthday.
