In the United States, Americans with Social Security prior to 1997 collect the first of the month’s checks. However, all other beneficiaries receive their benefits later in the month. The payments for retirees prior to that year are all on the same day, but all other retirees are paid on different days. In total, the Social Security Administration sends 4 different checks to all groups of retirees.
Whether you get paid on one day or the other depends not only on the year of retirement but also on the day of your birthday. Thus, retirees prior to 1997 are always paid on the 3rd day of the month, with some exceptions, but retirees after 1997 are not. Retirees who have had Social Security since after 1997 need to be more familiar with the calendar of the month.
In order to know on which day they will receive the money, retirees under these conditions have to take into account their birthday. In this regard, the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month are usually the days on which the Social Security Administration sends checks to these pensioners. When will you receive your payment in August?
SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEDULE FOR POST-1997 RETIREES
Beneficiaries after 1997 must take their birthday into account when determining the date of their Social Security payment. In this regard, there are three different collection days. The Administration will send these checks depending on the day of birth of each retiree.
These are the payment days for retirees after 1997 in August:
- August 9th. Retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- August 16th. Social Security beneficiaries with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of any month.
- August 23rd. Retirees with a benefit with a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month will receive their check on this day.
It is also important to note that the month of birth does not matter. Likewise, the year is not important to determine the day of payment. The only thing that matters in these cases is the day of the birthday itself.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR THE RETIREMENT MONEY TO ARRIVE?
The calendar we have just seen is the days on which the Administration will send the checks. This does not mean that retirees will automatically receive their benefits on these days. Receiving a Social Security check automatically depends on the collection method chosen.
If we have Direct Deposit activated, we will not have to wait even one day to receive the money. However, if we do not have this collection method activated, the check will take up to 3 days to appear.
Depending on the bank, the money may arrive sooner or later. Even so, the Social Security check always arrives every month. But sometimes we will have to wait a little longer depending on our own bank.
