Although the Social Security Administration makes the schedule of payments for United States retirees very clear, sometimes there are irregularities in the dates. This is the case for the first of the 2023 payments. This payment, which will include an 8.7% COLA increase, will not take place in 2023 as such.
As such, the payment will take place on December 30 of this year 2022. This may be surprising to many Supplemental Security Income users who receive it every month. The biggest problem with this situation is the financial set-up. For many SSI users, bringing this Social Security payment forward can mean that there are many days between one payment and the next.
New check in January 2023
In any case, this payment does pertain to January 2023. This means that users cannot expect another payment in January 2023. Only retirees with a disability or retirement age benefit will be able to receive their corresponding check.
Likewise, any other related Social Security payments will be sent within the established schedule. There will be no problems in this regard. In addition, although the SSA will send this payment in December 2022, for most users it will arrive in January 2023, as it can take up to 3 days to appear in the bank account.
When will I receive my January 2023 Social Security payment?
So far we’ve been talking about figures on Supplemental Security Income Social Security payments. But the main Social Security payment is retirement or disability benefits. The days on which retirees will collect their benefit in January are:
- January 11th.
- January 18th.
- January 25th.
On these days, retirees will be able to receive their payments depending on the days of birth. Therefore, a retiree born between the 1st and 10th of any month will receive his or her benefit on January 11th.
On the other hand, the Social Security Administration will send retirement payments on the 18th of January to those born between the 11th and 20th of any month.
Finally, retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month will receive their retirement benefit on the 25th of January. This is the last January payment to be sent by Social Security.
Ways to collect Social Security checks
In order to receive the payments immediately, it is possible to activate Direct Deposit. In case of collecting Social Security through the bank account, it may take up to 3 days to receive the payment.
By collecting the benefit through Direct Deposit we will have it immediately in our pocket. By this method we can collect both the retirement and disability benefit and the Supplemental Security Income. In addition, we can use this method as a regular debit card.
Although Social Security payments are divided into two different categories, in the end they are always sent by the same Administration. If on the one hand we have the Supplemental Security Income, on the other hand we have the Age or Disability Retirement Benefit. Each of these payments is individual and has its own criteria, so not everyone can receive both.
In addition to the January payments, the Social Security Administration will send checks to seniors every month of the year. Each group of retirees will be paid on a different day depending on their birthday. Thus, every month retirees will be paid on the second, third or fourth Wednesday of the month. Seniors should be aware of the exact day on which SSA will send checks to users.
