The May 2025 Social Security payment schedule is one of the latest of the year. The main reason is that the second Wednesday of the month falls on the 14th, causing a delay in the payment cycle and triggering financial stress for many recipients. For those born between the 11th and 31st, payments won’t arrive until May 21 or May 28, respectively.
This delay doesn’t mean benefits are being withheld or cut—just postponed. Retirees who began receiving benefits before 1997 already received their payments on May 2. Everyone else will get paid according to their birthdate, but on significantly later dates than usual.
Confirmed Social Security Payment Dates for May 2025
Here is the official payment schedule released by the Social Security Administration (SSA):
- May 1: SSI payment for May
- May 2: Payments for those who started receiving benefits before 1997
- May 14: For those born between the 1st and 10th
- May 21: For those born between the 11th and 20th
- May 28: For those born between the 21st and 31st
- May 30: Early SSI payment for June (since June 1 is a Sunday)
So, no payments will be sent out between May 5 and May 12, and those born after the 10th will need to wait an extra one to two weeks to receive their benefits. All payments are made via direct deposit.
If your payment hasn’t arrived within three business days after your scheduled date, the SSA recommends contacting them through their official site at ssa.gov, by phone, or by visiting your local Social Security office.
