Within the United States Social Security payments there are a large number of different benefits. Among them, one of the most common is the Disability Benefit. This check is only for a specific group of Americans who meet certain requirements.
In the coming year 2024 many Americans could lose the new Disability Benefit if they stop meeting a requirement. That is one of the big disadvantages of collecting such a benefit, since we could lose it at some point.
However, we will not surely lose this check in 2024. It all depends on what we do and our personal situation. The Social Security Administration does not stop paying these benefits to retirees spontaneously, but there are important reasons to stop sending the check.
Therefore, if you are currently collecting a check from SSDI you should look to see that you still meet all the requirements in the coming year 2024. If you don’t, the Social Security Administration could stop your benefit payment.
HOW COULD I LOSE MY DISABILITY PAYMENT IN 2024?
As we’ve already discussed, having a disability benefit has several requirements. So if you have an SSDI check, you must continue to meet those requirements. Otherwise, you could lose the payment in the next year 2024.
The main thing to keep in mind is what kind of SSDI benefit we have. If we have a benefit for a disability from birth we shouldn’t worry about losing the Social Security payment. But if that payment is for a situation where we have had a work-related accident, for example, it could change our payment.
In the event that we recover and the doctors assure us that we no longer have a disability that prevents us from doing our usual work, we will stop collecting the Social Security payment. This will be the case whenever we encounter a similar situation regardless of the year or month we are in.
Therefore, if we cease to have a disability, we will stop collecting SSDI payments. We may be able to collect other Social Security checks such as retirement payments if we qualify, but we will automatically lose our SSDI check.
MAXIMUM SSDI SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK IN THE NEXT YEAR
Starting in 2024 the SSDI payment will increase by 3.2% over this year’s 2023 check. That will bring the 2023 maximum disability payment of $3,627 to $3,743. This does not imply that all Americans will get such a large payment.
It is important to understand that each retiree will get the proportional increase in his or her benefit. Therefore, any payment will increase by 3.2% in the coming year regardless of the amount they currently collect.
Thus, a payment of $1,450, for example, will also carry a 3.2% increase. You do not have to have a maximum payment to get the increase in this benefit starting with the 2023 COLA. In short, your disability check will increase and the purpose of this is none other than to get retirees to fight inflation.
