In the United States, one of the great advantages of collecting a Social Security check, whether it is a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or a disability or old age retirement benefit, is being able to know what day of the month we will collect the check. This makes life much easier for recipients of these benefits.
The same happens with SNAP, although it is true that the payment schedule for this type of benefit is different. Citizens who have this check are paid on different days depending on the state in which they live. But it is possible to know in advance the day of payment for them if we take a good look at the calendar of payments of this benefit.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments are not state-based, so all recipients, regardless of where they live, are paid on the same day. Well, not all, since the method of payment chosen can change the day of payment of this benefit and can cause the payment to arrive much later.
But what we can know for sure is the day on which the Social Security Administration sends these checks. Even in months where there are irregularities, such as next December, we can know when we will have our Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment available.
HOW TO COLLECT AN EXTRA SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME (SSI) CHECK IN DECEMBER?
Not only will we be able to get two Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks in December, but we will also find that that second check will have an increase over the rest of the payments in 2023. This is because we are actually looking at the first of the 2024 payments with that year’s COLA included.
Therefore, we find that the maximum check for that benefit will not be $914, but $943. Therefore, during the month of December we will be able to collect two of these payments and both with a different amount. These are the two payment days:
- December 1. We will get the usual Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for all of 2023 with a maximum payment of $914.
- December 29. This payment will officially be the first of the January 2024 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks. The maximum will be $943.
The money we will get in this last payment will be the same as in the 1st but with the addition of 3.2%, which is this year’s COLA. So we will be able to enjoy some extra money.
However, not all Americans will be able to cash this check early. To do so, it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit as a cashing method. If we do not do this, we will not be able to receive the payment on the 29th of December, but the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will arrive in the days following January 1, 2024.
