Daylight Saving Time will begin very shortly in most United States territories, which will mean that we will say goodbye to the current Daylight Saving Time. DTS is one of those elements that will most likely end up disappearing in the United States annual plan.
Although it is true that the main objective of this twice-yearly time change is to maintain more daylight hours in the daily activity, it is possible that today this does not make as much sense as it used to. The truth is that some of the applications of Daylight Saving Time are not so important in today’s times.
Even so, we must keep in mind that it is necessary to apply the time change in the case that the State in which we live does apply the Daylight Saving Time and makes the change to winter time. This winter time will arrive very soon and all citizens will be able to see the change in their schedules.
When will the change to Daylight Saving Time take place?
The winter time will start on November 3rd. Thus, citizens living in most states will have to change their time during the early morning hours. Therefore, they will set back one clock, making an extra hour in the early morning, which can be very convenient for sleeping.
States that will not change this will be:
- Hawaii.
- Most areas of Arizona.
The rest of the States do have this time change, so if you do not live in these two areas named above you will have to change the time as soon as you wake up on Sunday November 3rd. Even so, it is true that most devices have built-in automation so that the time change is not necessary.
Why is there a change to Daylight Saving Time?
The truth is that Daylight Saving Time (DTS) has as its main objective three different lines:
- Maximizing natural daylight: The aim is to better adapt daylight hours to daily activities, especially in the morning.
- Energy saving: Traditionally it was believed that daylight saving time helped to reduce energy consumption, although recent studies question its effectiveness.
- Circadian rhythms: Keeping a more consistent schedule during the winter months helps people gradually adapt to shorter days.
These three elements may be key, but the truth is that it no longer seems to make sense in some cases to change the time twice a year. For that reason, there are plans to leave the winter time indefinitely and forget Daylight Saving Time (DTS) in the future. But, for the time being, these time changes exist and we must apply them to the clock.
