D-SNAP in Georgia: Phase 3 benefits now available

Assistance for those affected by Hurricane Helene continues in Georgia. Phase 3 of the D-SNAP program has begun, and food benefits will soon be distributed.

Georgia D-SNAP starts Phase 3 processing for those who have applied.

The D-SNAP food assistance program will provide support to people affected by Hurricane Helene.

Phase 3 of the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) has begun in Georgia. This program provides a one-time temporary food assistance benefit to low to moderate-income families who lost their homes or suffered damages due to Hurricane Helene. The third phase of benefits commenced on Thursday, November 7th, and will continue until November 14th, excluding Sunday and Veterans Day (November 11th), serving as the penultimate phase.

The D-SNAP program will provide support to the counties of Burke, Columbia, Glascokc, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren, and Washington. Households must pre-register only during the disaster benefits period. Pre-registration will continue for each phase.

What documents are required to receive D-SNAP?

Here is the information about what you need to present when submitting your application:

  • Name, date of birth, and Social Security number (if applicable) of each household member
  • Permanent residential address, temporary address, and/or mailing address
  • Proof of identification, such as a driver’s license or state-issued ID
  • Amount of disaster-related expenses incurred during the disaster period
  • Amount of income for each household member
  • Amount of household resources, including available cash or savings

How will Phase 4 of D-SNAP in Georgia?

An interview will be required to obtain benefits. Applicants who pass Phase 3 will need to contact the entity that administers this benefit, according to the day assigned based on their last name:

  • November 7, 2024: AF
  • November 8, 2024: GL
  • November 9, 2024: SR
  • November 12, 2024: SZ
  • November 13, 2024: Open to all Phase 3 applicants
  • November 14, 2024: Open to all Phase 3 applicants

When will Phase 4 of the D-SNAP program begin?

This phase is tentatively scheduled for the following dates according to the Georgia state website:

Phase 4: Monday, November 18, 2024 to Saturday, November 23, 2024, for the counties of Appling, Bulloch, Candler, Dodge, Emanuel, Evans, Jeff Davis, Johnson, Laurens, Montgomery, Tattnall, Telfair, Toombs, Treutlen, Wayne, and Wheeler.

What are the requirements for D-SNAP benefits?

Certain requirements are necessary to be eligible and entitled to the aid.

  • Live or work in one of the counties mentioned above that was hit by the disaster.
  • Not receive food assistance through the SNAP program.
  • Have suffered property loss or income related to the disaster.
  • Meet financial eligibility requirements.
