Costco has recently found itself in trouble and now it’s time to pay up. The well-known retailer has reached a $2 million settlement with customers over misleading ads for its Kirkland Signature wet wipes, which are not one of its core products, but a staple for many of the brand’s loyal shoppers.
Eligible consumers, particularly those in New York who purchased these wipes between July 1, 2011 and May 31, 2017, should act quickly to claim their share as the claim period draws to a close.
This settlement stems from a lawsuit that claimed Kirkland Signature wipes (Costco-owned brand) were not disposable, contrary to what was promoted.
The lawsuit highlights that, despite being promoted as disposable, the wipes caused significant damage to plumbing, septic systems and sewer pipes. While Costco’s acceptance of the settlement does not imply an admission of guilt, as is customary in such settlements, the company has opted to pay $2 million to settle this class action lawsuit for deceptive advertising.
Eligible class members can receive $1.30 for each product purchased, with a guaranteed minimum payment of $7.50 and a maximum of $55.90, covering up to 43 products.
Costco Settlement Claim Deadline
To receive a portion of the Costco settlement, customers must submit a valid claim form by August 9, 2024. It is critical to complete this process by the deadline to obtain compensation.
Fortunately, proof of purchase is not required, which simplifies the claim process for those who do not have their receipts.
Those who do not agree with the agreement or prefer not to participate should follow the specified unsubscribe procedure.
To file a claim, consumers should visit the designated settlement website. This provides the necessary form and detailed instructions on how to complete it. It is essential to follow each step carefully to ensure that the claim is processed correctly.
Remember that the time frame for claiming compensation is limited. Eligible consumers should act quickly to ensure that their claims are received in a timely manner.
