Social Security payment days depend on several factors. Whether or not you get your payment as a retiree in the United States depends on which group of retirees you belong to. In this sense, getting your payment in the first days of the month depends on the year you retired, but after that there are more requirements to take into account.
In total, the Social Security Administration has 4 different payment days for retirees. If we are part of group 1 of retirees, we can receive the check on the 3rd day of each month, barring surprises. But on this occasion we are not talking about the first payment of the month, but the second, which is sent in this same week of March.
Thus, one’s birthday is the other requirement to be taken into account in order to determine which group of retirees we belong to. If we are part of this group 2, we may even receive the payment today. It will also depend on the collection method we have chosen to receive the monthly benefit payment.
Who receives Social Security this week?
Retirees who meet two specific requirements will be able to receive their Social Security benefit in the same week of March 2025. If they do not meet both requirements, they will not be able to get this payment, but will receive it at a different time of the month.
Thus, payments of this benefit will arrive today or in the next few days of this week to retirees who:
- Have your birthday between the 1st and 10th day of any month.
- Have had your Social Security benefit accepted since after May 1997.
Only if we are in this group will we be able to receive payment on this specific day. But to that we must add one more requirement to get the check on March 12th. It is mandatory, in this case, to receive payment by Direct Deposit. This method of collection is immediate, so if we do not have it activated we will have to wait a few days until we finally have the check in our checking account.
How much will we receive from Social Security?
The COLA for 2025 has had an effect on Social Security benefit payments, but it is true that the payment will ultimately be the same in March as in the other months of this year. So, your benefit payment for January and February will be the same as what you will receive in this case.
This may change if we are affected by the Fairness Act. In that case, everything will depend on what increase we get and whether we actually get it. Therefore, until we have the March Social Security check in our bank account, we won’t be able to know the exact amount 100%.
