United States Social Security retirement benefits have maximum amounts for all beneficiaries. Whether or not you get one of these benefits depends on the requirements, but it is also possible to add an extra monthly payment to those retirement checks.

If we have access to SSI, it means that we can receive a little extra money every month to use for whatever we need. In this sense, many of the United States citizens who meet the requirements for this monthly payment do not know that they can get it.

But the moment we find out that we can receive up to $967 from SSI without having to meet too many requirements, the truth is that it is a real financial relief. It is true that not all citizens can receive a payment from this benefit and that it is not always such a large amount, but any help is always welcome.

Requirements for the monthly SSI

Payments of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) arrive once a month, although there are occasional exceptions. But regardless of this, we can find out the conditions for receiving it and thus know if we are eligible.

In this sense, we find that Supplemental Security Income (SSI) has several requirements:

  • Being 65 years of age or older. It is also possible to apply for payment if we have a disability instead of being 65 years old.
  • Having a low monthly income and low resources.

The benefit we receive each month depends directly on our income. Therefore, if we have a very low income we will be closer to the maximum SSI payment, which is $967 per month.

In the case of having low income and receiving the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) every month, the amount could change on occasion. This is because the Social Security Administration needs to know what our monthly income is and can increase or decrease the check received if it changes.

Next Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment

On April 1st we will be able to receive the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment for that month without any problems. This is because that day is not a holiday or weekend, so the Administration sends the check without exception.

When the 1st of a month is a holiday or weekend, the day of shipment changes. In that case, the SSA pays the SSI benefit on the next working day. Only in this case could we receive two payments of this benefit in the same month, but in reality the payment is from two different months.

As with retirement checks, SSI payments arrive sooner if we have Direct Deposit activated. If we don’t, the money can take up to 3 days to appear, so it’s not like we have to wait too long either.
