Social Security could send more money thanks to the new Bill

Social Security checks are a type of benefit for United States citizens who have worked long enough to get a payment without having to work more. But, on the other hand, it is also possible to get this check for retirement in the case of having a disability.

Still, these are not the only reasons why we can get one of these checks, since there are other citizens who may have some kind of Social Security benefit. Family members of these recipients of a retirement payment may also collect a survivor’s benefit, which may soon be increased by the bill.

How does the Bill affect Social Security checks?

The important thing to keep in mind here is none other than the possibility of collecting this payment from Social Security once the beneficiary of this benefit passes away. So far, citizens under this circumstances have gotten an amount of $255. This amount has not changed since 1954, so it seems that the amount today seems insufficient if we take into account inflation.

Thus, those citizens who collect this type of survivor’s benefit in the future could benefit from the Bill that is currently being studied. The proposal is that citizens under these circumstances could get $2,900. That’s a huge difference, but if we take into account everything related to inflation, we can see that it’s not too far-fetched an idea.

Vermont Democratic Senator Peter Welch has proposed the bill. If all goes as it should, recipients of this benefit will be able to enjoy a bigger check. Still, it is true that the idea behind all this is not so that Americans can get the money to spend on whatever they want.

The main purpose is to be able to cope with funeral expenses, which have skyrocketed a lot since the Social Security survivor benefit started operating. In that year, it is true that $255 might seem like a good help, but today the expenses are over $6,000, so extra help is always welcome.
