You can get help as a Senior to pay your energy bills

Electricity and gas bills are a must for any household in the United States. Also, seniors who have only a monthly Social Security benefit may have trouble meeting all of these bills each month. For that reason, the U.S. Government offers help to eligible Americans.

If you’re eligible, you can get financial help paying your monthly bills, so you can make the most of a new benefit that makes your life easier. Even so, it is true that it is not a benefit as such, but it is a momentary help to be able to have a more comfortable life for a limited time.

The U.S. Government offers two types of help for seniors. On the one hand, we have the LIHEAP. On the other hand, we have WAP. These two benefits directly help seniors with their electric bill, either by providing money to pay the bill or by helping to renovate the house to achieve better weatherization.

How can seniors get help with energy bills?

The truth is that both of these helps are really helpful for all that is involved in having access to extra money to pay energy bills. Nowadays, energy bills have gone up a lot due to inflation across the board, so we can find ourselves sometimes with bills that are too big.

So, any help the U.S. Government can offer is welcomed by the neediest citizens. In order to have everything more orderly, let’s look at both helps separately:

  1. LIHEAP. This financial help goes to the neediest citizens. The criterion when granting this benefit is the citizen’s monthly income. The ultimate goal is that all Americans can pay their energy bills. To find out if you are eligible, all you have to do is contact a LIHEAP office.
  2. WAP. The idea of this financial help is to make the home more energy efficient. Thus, we can get this help depending also on our monthly income. If we want to know more, we only have to go to a WAP office.

As soon as we know that we can be part of one of these benefits we have to apply for it. This help for senior citizens is very important and we cannot refuse everything related to it. Remember that you can combine this financial help with the monthly Social Security payment, so we can get the retirement benefit without any problems.
