Get a bigger Social Security check during your retirement

Each United States citizen with a retirement benefit has a different amount. The Social Security Administration sends a higher or lower check depending on the work history of the citizen. In the case of Disability checks, the rules are different, but if we are talking about a worker’s retirement it is necessary to check well the rules that make up the monthly check.

We will always find three different elements that influence the Social Security retirement check. In the event that we maximize these three elements we may find that the check may be very close to the maximum $4,873 that the SSA sends to United States retirees. And while it is true that not everyone can get a check that big, it is also true that we can maximize the benefit within our means.

How to get a $4,873 retirement check?

First of all, it is important to note, as we have already mentioned, that the $4,873 monthly check is not available to all beneficiaries. Every American gets a different Social Security payment, so we must always keep this in mind.

For that reason, our retirement payment will not be the same as other Americans. But we can extend our check if we have not yet applied for it. When we start collecting the Social Security payment there will be no way to have a larger check, but we can extend it if we do several things before we apply for it.

First of all, delay your retirement age. If we retire at the minimum age, 62, we will have too small a check. For that reason, we should try to delay applying for Social Security as long as possible. The maximum is 70, so if we wait until then to request payment we are going to get a much larger benefit.

On the other hand, the two remaining elements are the years worked and the salary during those years. If we take into account that the higher the salary, the more taxes we will pay, we can understand that our benefit will be higher at the time of retirement. Also, Social Security will take the 35 years worked with the highest salary. So it is a good idea to work that amount of years before applying for retirement.

Supplement your monthly retirement checks

If you have already applied for your monthly Social Security payment and it is too small, you may be able to request extra payments for your monthly expenses. Among those extra payments are two main checks. The first is Supplemental Security Income and the second is SNAP Food Stamps.

Both of these payments are supplements to wages and retirement checks. And the best part is that we can get both payments and enjoy them even if we have a Social Security check. Therefore, we can get three checks a month without any problems.
