United States retirees with a Social Security payment may soon get two checks in the same week. These benefit payments usually arrive on different days depending on the group to which the retiree belongs.
Well, some of these retirees may be able to take a check for an extra benefit to give them some free money to use for whatever they need. If we have both benefits accepted, payment will arrive in just a few weeks, as Social Security sends out new checks very soon.
When do both retiree checks arrive in the same week?
This Social Security payment we are talking about is the first of the May checks. Retirees with a pre-1997 benefit will be able to enjoy two checks in May if they also have Supplemental Security Income.
So here are the days they can collect this payment and the requirements to get them:
- May 1st. Supplemental Security Income payment. Any citizen with this accepted benefit will be able to get this check on this particular day.
- May 3rd. Only retirees with a benefit prior to 1997 can enjoy the check on this day.
Therefore, having a pre-1997 retirement and a Supplemental Security Income payment, we will get two different checks from Social Security in the first week of May.
How much will these checks be for Social Security retirees?
Each of the checks has its own maximum amount. In this regard, Supplemental Security Income payments reach a check of up to $943 per month. This maximum payment is not for all beneficiaries, as the amount received will depend on the beneficiary’s monthly income.
On the other hand, the maximum Social Security retirement check is $4,873. However, this would be in the case of retirement due to age. If we take into account that Disability beneficiaries can also get this check, then we have to know that the maximum in these cases is $3,822 in the year 2024.
In any case, remember that if you have a maximum Social Security benefit it is not possible to get Supplemental Security Income. Retirees with a high level of income cannot get monthly SSI check.
