One of the things United States citizens enjoy most in the last days of March is the arrival of spring. And sometimes, as is the case this year 2023, spring also brings with it a new Social Security check so that retirees can have their payment on time. However, this payment is only for a group of retirees, as the rest should have collected it by this date.
So if you have an already accepted Social Security benefit you will be able to enjoy the new payment in just a few hours. The only thing you must meet is a specific requirement, since the payment is not for all retirees, but only for a group of them. This requirement is not related to the type of benefit or anything like that.
The requirement we are talking about is linked to the date of birth. Thus, retirees who were born between the 21st and 31st of the month are the ones who will collect the next of the checks. If you were born before those days, there is nothing to worry about, since you should have had the money in your pocket for days. Are you among the next group of retirees to receive Social Security?
Full Social Security payment schedule for March 2023
Social Security beneficiaries receive a check in the month of March, although not everyone will receive it tomorrow. March 22nd is the last day for retirement benefit recipients to receive their new check. Only the group of retirees with birthdays in the last ten days of the month will receive this amount of money.
In order to place the month’s payment days, here is a schedule of the March 2023 Social Security payments:
- March 8th. Payment for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- March 15th. Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month receive their benefit.
- March 22nd. Retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month receive their payment.
Knowing this calendar perfectly, we can know if we need to claim the checks from the Administration today. In case you have not received the payment while belonging to one of the first two groups, you should check what the problem is with the receipt of the money.
Other Benefit Payments in March
Retirement benefit payments are not the only ones the Social Security Administration sends out during the month. In addition to these three checks, the SSA also sends another type of benefit called Supplemental Security Income. This other payment is not available to all beneficiaries, as there are certain requirements that must be met in order to receive it.
Supplemental Security Income recipients usually receive a check on the 1st of March. This is true if they have Direct Deposit activated, of course. Otherwise, beneficiaries receive their check a few days later.
However, there are irregularities in the calendar some months, which causes Social Security to send the money on a different day. To be exact, when the 1st of the month is a holiday or weekend, SSA sends the money on the immediately preceding business day.
For that reason, in March we got two different SSI checks. March 1st was the day SSA paid the March SSI, but on the upcoming 31st the Administration will send out the April SSI check.
How do I claim a back payment from Social Security?
There are times when a retiree should receive his or her monthly benefit check but does not. In these cases, there are several things we need to do to prevent us from having financial problems during the month.
The first thing we need to do in these cases is to make sure it is our payment day. This way, we know that the days when Social Security sends checks are on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month. Each different day is for a different group of pensioners.
Knowing this, if our money has not arrived on time the first thing we have to do is contact the bank. If the bank does not offer us a solution, then we have to contact the Social Security Administration, either by phone or by going to an office.
