United States Social Security payments have several inescapable requirements. So, in order to apply for one of these checks, it is necessary to know these requirements and, of course, comply with them. In this sense, once we meet the requirements, we will be able to collect the pensioner’s pension every month, with some exceptions.
There are several different benefits. This means that the Social Security Administration does not provide only the age retirement benefit. There are other different retirement benefits available to United States citizens. While the maximum amount is not the same for all benefits, the monthly check may be enough to live on.
In this regard, thousands of Americans in their 60s are interested in finding out if it is possible to apply for a Social Security benefit. It is normal for people to reach that age and want to know if they can have a payment every month and forget about work. In the golden years, having a benefit is the best thing that can happen.
CAN I HAVE SOCIAL SECURITY AT THE AGE OF 60?
Here we have to look at each situation individually in order to determine whether or not we have access to a Social Security payment. On the one hand, the minimum age to apply for the age retirement payment is 62 years old. This means that at age 60 we will not be able to apply for the age benefit.
However, keep in mind that not only age retirement is available. Disability retirement is also available. So if we are 60 years old and have a disability we can apply for the monthly SSA payment.
Also, it is also mandatory to have earned a minimum of 40 work credits for most cases. This means that we will have to have worked 10 years before applying for the pensioner. In the case of disability, this requirement also changes a bit.
WHEN DOES THE NEXT PENSION CHECK ARRIVE?
To receive the next pensioner’s check we have to wait until the 1st of September. On this day, the Social Security Administration will send out a new check for pensioners with a pension prior to 1997.
In addition to that, there is also a bit of a special situation on that 1st of September. The Administration will send out a total of two different checks. The pensioner’s check we have already mentioned and the Supplemental Security Income.
Speaking of the calendar irregularity, there is yet another one within the month of September. In total, the Social Security Administration will send out two Supplemental Security Income checks in the entire month. So we may receive one of this benefit on the 1st and another on the 29th.
