The past pandemic caused that we saw in the United States and others countries has had two fundamental impacts. On the one hand, the health crisis, and on the other, the economic crisis. For this second reason, the United States federal government implemented the so-called stimulus checks. This is a help to alleviate the difficult situation that many citizens have been going through.
Stimulus checks are a help to alleviate the financial situation of many Americans. Beneficiaries have so far obtained three rounds of this payment. The first one was part of the CARES Act in 2020. The amount of this first check was $1,200.
As for the second payment, it came hand in hand with the Attorney Relief Act also in 2020. However, on this occasion the value of the checks was $600. Finally in 2021, there was a third payment. This was issued under the U.S. Bailout Plan. The corresponding payment was $1,400.
Although the health crisis has come to an end, the economic crisis continues. Not only because of the consequences of the pandemic, but also because of new economic challenges, such as the increase in inflation, suggest that this help is still needed. For this reason, 6 states have decided to grant stimulus checks for 2023 on their own.
Stimulus Checks on the West Coast
In the first half of this 2023 California is scheduled to pay its residents these Stimulus Checks. The money for this payment comes from tax refunds. Therefore, it will go to taxpayers who filed their 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021 and lived here. The amount will range from $200 to $1,050.
Further north, in the State of Idaho, the help can come in two forms. On the one hand, each member of an eligible family can receive a check for $75. The other option is to receive 12 percent of the taxpayer’s tax liability. This money will go to the beneficiaries as a tax refund for those who filed their tax returns in a timely manner.
Finally, New Mexico plans to grant two refunds in 2023. The first one will be either $500 for taxpayers in a couple, family or surviving spouse. Or $250 for single or married individuals with separate tax returns. As for the second one, it has not yet been approved. However, the maximum amount is expected to be up to $1,000.
East Coast of the United States
The State of Maine has approved what it has called the “winter energy relief payment”. This check comes to financially relieve those people who have suffered from extreme winter weather and therefore, higher energy consumption. In this case, the amount for single taxpayers is $450, and $900 for couples.
New Jersey has approved a Stimulus Check for homeowners or renters. This is a check for $1,500 to people who meet two requirements. On the one hand, they must have been a homeowner or renter in the state during 2019. In addition, they must justify income below $150,000.
The Pennsylvania State has created the “Property/Rent Tax”. In it, a payment of between $250 and $600 is stipulated for homeowners who meet certain requirements. It also provides for this figure to rise from $500 to $650 for renters. Senior citizens will receive up to $975.
