Knowing the time of the month in which we are going to get each of the payments of the Social Security Disability of the United States is something important to control the economy of our home. We must keep in mind that each month there is a different payment schedule and if we do not know it, we may have financial problems in the future.
So, what we do have to know for sure is that the Disability payment will reach our current account regardless of the group of retirees to which we belong. But we must also keep in mind that depending on the group we belong to we are going to get the check sooner or later. Within this, on January 3rd, 2025 we will have a new check sent by the Social Security Administration, but only group 1 retirees can get this payment.
Who will get the January 3rd 2025 Disability payment?
In order to get this payment, as we have advanced, you need to be part of retiree group 1. This group is the one that has a benefit prior to May 1997. It is only mandatory to meet this requirement in order to receive the January 3rd payment or, at least, for Social Security to send us the money.
If we do not belong to this group, we will get the payment in the following weeks of January. In any case, we must also keep in mind that this day is the day the payment is sent and not the day we get it. If we intend to have the money on the same day it is sent, the collection method chosen should be Direct Deposit.
As far as the amount is concerned, the maximum payment in 2025 for Disability retirees after adding the COLA will be $4,018. This does not mean that all beneficiaries will get this benefit, but the maximum amount of money we can get is that. Therefore, our check in January will be a little higher with respect to the December 2024 SSDI payment, although the exact amount we won’t know yet until the day of the collection itself.
Can I change the day I get my Disability payment?
The information that changes the day of the Social Security Disability collection is the year of retirement and the day of birth. With this in mind, it is easy to see that changing the payday is not possible. The moment we start collecting Social Security, we will always know the approximate date of receipt of the retirement money.
In total there are four groups of retirees. The first group gets the payment on the 3rd day of the month or on the immediately preceding working day in case it falls on a holiday. Groups 2, 3 and 4 get their payment on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month depending on the day of their birthday.
Therefore, it is not possible to change the day on which the Administration sends us the payment, but it is possible to get the check on the same day it is sent just by activating Direct Deposit as a collection method.
