The schedule of Social Security payments for the year 2023 is now available. Thanks to this, all United States citizens can know directly the day they will receive their cheques. And the best part of all this is that not only age-based retirees but also disability-based retirees can know the day they will receive their paychecks. In addition, Social Security also announces the mailing of Supplemental Security Income cheques.
These cheques are always sent on the 1st of each month to beneficiaries. However, the Social Security Administration does not send Supplemental Security Income on the 1st of each month, as there are some exceptions. And in the first month of 2023 there is this exception, so the beneficiaries of this payment from the SSA will not receive the payment in question on that same day.
When will the Social Security Administration send the January 2023 SSI?
The payment of this Supplemental Security Incomecheque will not be sent by Social Security in 2023. To be exact, the SSA will send this payment in the last month of 2022, which is December 2022. This is due to a calendar irregularity since the 1st is a holiday. When the 1st day of a month is a holiday or weekend, the Social Security Administration sends the SSI cheque on the immediately preceding business day.
For that reason, we find that the first payment for the year 2023 will actually be made in the year 2022. This is a very common occurrence in these cases. It should also be noted that this is the first of the payments that will have the 8.7% COLA increase. If we have Direct Deposit activated, we will be able to have this January cheque on the same day in December that the SSA sends it out.
Other January 2023 payments
In addition to this January 2023 payment, the Social Security Administration will send different payments. However, SSA will pay them in the corresponding month.
- January 11th
- January 18th
- January 25th
SSA will pay pensions to retirees on one day or the other depending on their day of birth. It is not necessary to be born in January to receive the January benefit cheque. The only important thing is to know the exact day of birth.
So retirees born between the 1st and the 10th are paid on the 11th day of January. On the other hand, Social Security sends payments on the 18th to retirees born between the 11th and 20th of a month. Finally, SSA pays the cheque on the 25th of January to retirees with birthdays between the 21st and 31st of the month.
Social Security’s next SSI payment
In January 2023, there is no SSI payment sent from the Social Security Administration. This payment was made, as we discussed, in December 2022. Since this is so, the next Supplemental Security Income cheque will be made in February 2023. To be more exact, the 1st of the month is the calendar day chosen by the Social Security Administration to send this cheque.
Remember that if you have Direct Deposit activated, you will not have to wait a single day to receive this money. This is the fastest way to get your Social Security payments directly.
