Within the entire organization of Social Security Administration payments in the United States, the day payments are sent out is always announced in advance. Each month you can find out when the SSA will send out retirement and disability checks.
A glance at the monthly calendar is all it takes to know the day the SSA will pay the retirement check. The day of the birthday is key to knowing on which of those days we will be able to receive the check.
As a general rule, unless there is an exception in the calendar, Social Security payments are sent on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month. The group of retirees who receive the payment is divided into three different groups. Those born between the 1st and 10th, those born between the 11th and 20th and, finally, those born between the 21st and 31st.
In order to understand this classification in payments it is very important to see also that the month of birth does not matter. When we talk about the birthday, we only talk about the day of the birthday. The Social Security Administration does not care about the month of birth when sending out retirement checks.
Schedule of Social Security payments in 2023
The timing of Social Security payments in 2023 depends, as we have already discussed, on one’s date of birth. The most important fact in this regard is the specific day. Thus, the following scheme must be taken into account.
- 2nd Wednesday of the month. Pensioners born between the 1st and the 10th receive their Social Security benefit.
- 3rd Wednesday of the month. Pensioners with birthdays between the 11th and 20th receive their subsidy.
- 4th Wednesday of the month. The Social Security Administration sends retirement and disability payments to those born between the 21st and 31st of a month.
This makes it very easy to know the day in every month of 2023 when we will collect our retirement check. Thus, in January we will have the 11th, 18th, and 25th as payment days, for example.
Other SSA payments in 2023
In addition to Social Security retirement pension payments, the Administration also sends out other payments called Supplemental Security Income. To receive these payments, it does not matter what day your birthday is, since the only important thing is to have your benefit accepted.
Also, on the 1st of each month, the SSA sends this check to the neediest families. This is the case except for those months when the first of the month is a weekend or holiday. In these cases, which are not usual, the SSA sends the check on the immediately preceding working day.
