Retirees in the United States who have a monthly Social Security check also have the option of accessing one of the Supplemental Security Income checks. It is true that not all retirees are eligible for this check, as Social Security has specific requirements to qualify for it.

However, it is also worth noting that not only retirees have access to this check from Social Security. Supplemental Security Income is a type of government payment that is for citizens who have a low source of income. This means that not only pensioners can receive this type of check.

On the other hand, it should also be noted that the timing of payments for this type of benefit is totally different. So it is possible for a pensioner to receive up to 3 cheques in the same month of March. This is very good news for a large group of pensioners.

On what days does Social Security send out the two Supplemental Security Income checks?

Unlike disability or retirement benefit payments, there are no different groups when it comes to Supplemental Security Income. If you have this benefit accepted, the day of your birthday will not change the date this check is cashed. For that reason, pay attention to the days on which Social Security will send these two checks:

Therefore, within the days of March we will be able to receive two different SSI payments. If we add to this a check for the disability or age retirement benefit, that’s up to 3 checks we can get this month.

Why does SSA send two SSI checks in March?

The reason the Social Security Administration sends up to 2 different SSI checks in March is because of a calendar irregularity. SSI payments are always made on the 1st of each month. However, this is not the case if there is a special situation.

If the 1st day of a month is a holiday or weekend, the payment is made on the immediately preceding working day. That is why we have two different SSI payments in March. That is since Social Security will not send a check on April 1, since it is a weekend.

This happens the same way every month when there are irregularities. So the moment you see that the 1st of the month is a holiday you know that the previous month you will have a double SSI check.
