People with diabetes, throughout their lives, must have an adequate control of the disease so that it does not harm their wellbeing. The best thing to do is to follow a healthy and balanced diet that does not increase the glucose levels in your body and avoid any type of lack of control.

In this case, there are some drugs that, according to experts, we should avoid if we have diabetes. Especially some that we take when we have a cold, fever or headache.

Most of them do not have to be harmful to the health of a healthy person, since they are indicated to take them for several days until the virus has disappeared. However, in the case of diabetics, they must follow specific guidelines.

In this regard, the best thing to do is to consult with your doctor about which medication is going to worsen the state of your blood glucose. You should always be alert to any changes that occur in your body.

Which medications are harmful to the health of diabetics?

Diabetes affects more than 460 million people in the world. This figure means that scientific researchers do not rest to look for different treatments to improve the diagnosis of the disease in the world.

Medication is one of the most important parts to control the disease, but it is also influenced by diet, physical exercise or the habits we have on a daily basis.

However, even though all this is controlled, patients suffering from diabetes should also take into account that there are some drugs that can alter blood glucose levels. Below is a list of some of the least recommended by experts in these cases:

  • Antihypertensive drugs.
  • Paracetamol or other drugs for pain and fever
  • Medications with caffeine
  • Medications with ascorbic acid in their composition
  • Drugs containing acetylsalicylic acid
  • Corticosteroids
  • Antibiotics such as quinolones
  • Drugs for the treatment of AIDS

All these drugs can alter blood glucose levels. So if, for any particular reason, we have to use them, it is best to consult with our doctor so that he/she can give us the necessary guidelines and other healthy alternatives.
