Colds are one of the most common problems faced by people around the world. Although you can catch a cold at any time of the year, you need to be especially careful during the winter season.

A common cold is a viral infection around the nose and throat. It can cause great airway discomfort. Healthy adults tend to catch colds less than children and infants.

Symptoms that can last for about a week include stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing, sneezing, and fever. But you can prevent or recover from colds with the help of certain foods.

Here’s a diet to help you recover from a cold faster:

1. Turmeric

Turmeric is one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory compounds you can add to your daily diet. It strengthens immunity and can enhance the antibody response in the event of an invasive virus entering the body.

2. Citrus fruits

A diet rich in vitamin C can help you deal with the common cold. Supplement your diet with citrus fruits, which contain large amounts of vitamin C. Make a fruit salad or squeeze the juice out of them.

3. Yogurt

Yogurt contains a type of bacteria that act like probiotics. This improves gut health, which is closely related to the functioning of the immune system. While medications can help, yogurt can reduce cold symptoms without any side effects.

4. Dark leafy vegetables

Leafy vegetables are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamin C, and other essential micronutrients that we need when we get sick.

5. Salmon

Salmon or any other fish with a lot of omega-3 fatty acids can help you deal with colds and coughs.

6. Garlic and ginger

The allicin in garlic can help reduce the common cold as well as prevent it from catching it, due to its immune-boosting properties. Ginger can help soothe the upset stomach that can occur with a cold.

7. Nuts

During colds, it’s important to nourish your body with healthy calories. While your appetite may have diminished, you may be munching on nuts. They contain the healthy calories the body needs to deal with the disease. Nuts are also rich in protein, zinc and selenium.
