North Carolinians can still apply for property tax refund

September 2023 Stimulus Checks: Which states are distributing tax refunds and direct payments this month?

Individuals residing in Greensboro, North Carolina, still have a few days to apply for a property tax refund with a maximum payment of about $150.

The Greensboro City Council approved a pilot program in early 2023 offering eligible applicants a rebate of their property taxes.

A total of $250,000 has been set aside to reimburse applicants for this rebate, and approximately 1,500 to 2,000 applications are expected to be received.

Citizens may receive a minimum rebate of US$50

The minimum amount that can be received from this reimbursement is $50. Applications for this refund opened on April 15 and will be accepted until next Thursday.

To qualify for the help, the applicant must meet a number of requirements, including that the home be located within the city limits of Greensboro, that the home has been owned for five uninterrupted years, and that the total property tax value of the home is less than $250,000.

When filing for a refund, several documents will be required, including the 2022 tax return or W-2. Other forms of documentation, such as a current pay stub or 2023 benefit statement, may also be used as proof of household income.

Interested applicants may apply online, and paper applications are available in several languages, including English, Spanish and French. Paper applications are available at Greensboro Public Libraries.

Tax collections may be received until September 30, 2023 from the time the tax rebate is accepted.

These refunds will be issued to New Mexico residents who have filed their 2021 tax return and will be worth $500 for single taxpayers or $1,000 for married taxpayers filing jointly. These payments will be issued either through direct deposits or through paper checks, with direct deposits to be sent to bank accounts beginning June 16 and paper checks to be issued by the end of June, according to KOAT 7.

“Our state today is in a fantastic financial position, and it’s important to me that New Mexico families share in that success,” explains Michelle Lujan Grisham.

New Mexico taxpayers who have not filed their 2021 returns have until May 31, 2024 to do so.

If a taxpayer has moved to a different address since filing their 2021 tax return, the individual can update the address using the Taxpayer Access Point self-service portal on the state Taxation and Revenue Department’s website.

Alternatively, the taxpayer may also file a change of address form with the state Department of Taxation and Revenue.
