The reason why Supplemental Security Income recipients will collect 2 payments in December is because of a holiday. Since the January payment is on New Year, it will arrive in advance.
Do not forget that the Administration always sends SSI payments on the first day of the month. But at the same time, there are no Social Security payments on the weekend or on a holiday.
In order to avoid sending money on New Year, the Administration has rescheduled the Supplemental Security Income paydays. By doing so, beneficiaries will collect their payment 3 days before the due date.
Therefore, the January 1 check will be sent on December 29. Then, there will be no bonus or extra payment for Supplemental Security Income recipients. What will also be different are the amounts of these payments.
What are the SSI amounts in December?
December 1 will be payday for Supplemental Security Income recipients. On this day, the largest check will be $914 for individuals. An essential person can receive a payment of up to $458.
If you are an eligible married couple, your check could be $1,371. However, since Social Security has announced a 3.2% increase for 2024, the January payment will give recipients more money. Thanks to the 2024 COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) SSI beneficiaries can collect a payment of up to $943.
Then, those collecting the largest amount can receive $29 extra per month. Married couples will receive up to $1,415, 44 dollars more per month if eligible. Essential persons will also see their SSI benefits grow by 3.2%. So they will cash up to $472 in 2024.
The first check to get the COLA will be for Supplemental Security Income recipients on December 29. The rest of Social Security beneficiaries will have to wait a little longer. January 3, 10, 17, and 24 will be the first paydays with the COLA.
