Retirees in the United States have to meet a number of requirements in order to apply for Social Security. In this regard, it is common to meet this minimum for a U.S. citizen, so getting a retirement check is not really complicated. The ideal is to increase the check to the maximum of $4,558 in 2023, but that task requires a lot of advance planning.
However, getting a very good Social Security check at age 65 retirement age is easier. In addition to this, there are also options to be able to live in some cities in the United States without the need to have the biggest retirement check. Therefore, good organization is necessary to be able to get a good Social Security check, but it is not necessary to increase it to the maximum.
Also, knowing the day on which each retiree will collect his or her Social Security check is really important. The Administration divides all retirees into three different groups. Each of these groups collects their check on a Wednesday, either the second, third or fourth of the month. To find out which Wednesday each retiree receives their check, we only need to know their date of birth. What day of the month will you receive your Social Security check?
Upcoming Social Security payments in January 2023
In January 2023 the Social Security Administration has already sent one of the payments to retirees. Pensioners receive their checks on the same days regardless of the type of retirement. In this way, the age pensioner receives the retirement money on the same day as the disability or widow/widower pensioner. In January, these are the payment days.
- January 11. On this day, the Social Security Administration sends payments to retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- January 18. Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th of the month receive their benefits on this day.
- January 25. Last day of the month on which Social Security sends payments in January. This check is for retirees born between the 21st and 31st of the month.
The important fact to receiving the payment is the day of the birthday. But it does not matter in which month the retiree was born. Only the day of the birthday is important to find out the whole calendar.
What is the next group of retirees to collect Social Security?
The next group of retirees to collect their Social Security pension is the group of beneficiaries born between the 11th and 20th of the month. The exact day on which they will receive the benefit will be the 18th of January. This will be the case as long as the retiree has activated Direct Deposit. Otherwise, it may take up to 3 days for the money to appear in the bank account.
Receiving the pension money in the bank account, therefore, has the disadvantage that we may have to wait. However, either method is perfectly valid. It is not mandatory to activate Direct Deposit to receive the retirement check.
Social Security also pays for SSI cheque
In addition to Social Security payments for retirees, the Administration also pays Supplemental Security Income checks each month. These checks are not for all recipients, but only for a small group of the neediest.
If you have an accepted SSI benefit, SSA will send you a benefit check on the 1st of each month, which changes depending on a number of factors. Occasionally, the payment may be sent on the immediately preceding business day because the 1st of the month is a weekend or holiday.
What do I do if I do not receive my retirement benefit?
If you do not receive your retirement benefit check, you should first contact your bank. Sometimes they can hold your Social Security payment at the bank’s office for a variety of reasons:
- Change of personal information, such as a move or divorce.
- Occasional administrative failures at the bank itself.
- Lack of money in our bank account.
These are just a few examples. If after talking to the bank we still do not have a solution, then contact the Social Security Administration to solve all the problems.
