While it is true that Social Security payments arrive once a month, sometimes the Administration sends more than one check on the same day. It is not common for a United States retiree to collect more than one check, but sometimes it can happen.
Best of all, these types of exceptions appear on the calendar ahead of time. So we can always find out in which month we might get a double Social Security check, even if one of them is not a retirement check.
Knowing this kind of things helps us a lot to organize the household economy. Knowing that on the 1st of March we will have two Social Security payments available to us can be very useful.
Who gets two Social Security payments on March 1st?
The first thing to keep in mind when calendaring March 1st is the type of benefit you have. The Social Security Administration will send two different checks on March 1st, 2024, yes, but to different groups.
Even so, a retiree could be part of both groups. And that is because the first of these payments will be the March Supplemental Security Income. This payment is this month’s payment and there are no irregularities in this regard. Each and every recipient of this benefit gets the payment on the same day.
However, if we also have a Social Security retirement check from before May 1997, we will be able to collect payment. The payment day for Group 1 would be March 3rd, but it is a weekend. Since that is the case, the Administration sends it on the immediately preceding business day, the 1st of March.
How do I get the retirement payments on the same day of mailing?
Remember that the 1st of the month is the day the Administration will send checks. But that doesn’t mean that we always get payment on the same day. Well, that is unless we have Direct Deposit active.
If we have this collection method, Social Security payments, regardless of the type of benefit, will appear immediately in our bank account. By choosing this collection method, you won’t have to wait a single day to collect each benefit.
And if your benefit is not prior to 1997, you don’t have to worry. You can still get your Supplemental Security Income check and then collect your Social Security on the assigned day, which is either the 13th, 20th or 27th of March.
