Throughout the year, United States citizens who are entitled to a Social Security benefit receive different payments. These payments are always divided into three different weeks of the month. Therefore, the Social Security Administration sends these payments in the second, third and fourth weeks of the month.
Each group of retirees receives this payment on different days. To find out which group a retiree belongs to, all you have to do is check the date of the retiree’s birthday. To be more precise, the day of the month is the only really useful information. It does not matter the month or year of birth to determine in which week the retiree will collect his or her Social Security check.
As we have discussed, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of the month are crucial for these payments. Specifically, Wednesdays of this week. Check payments are therefore sent by Social Security to retirees from different groups on these different Wednesdays. It’s very easy to know the schedule, and next week the SSA will send checks to retirees born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
December Social Security Payment Schedule
The calendar for December Social Security retirement payments is on the following days:
- December 14th. First retirement check payment in this month. This payment is for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of any month.
- December 21st. Second Social Security check payment in December. SSA will send it to retirees who have a birthday between the 21st and 31st of any month.
- December 28th. Third check of the month. The Social Security Administration sends it to retirees who were born between the 21st and 31st of any month.
Note that retirees do not have to be born in a pay month to receive a payment. Thus, pensioners born in December may receive the benefit in any other month of the year. The same applies to seniors born in January, February or May.
Other SSA Payments in December
In addition to the retirement benefit payment, there are two other payments that the Social Security Administration sends in the month of December. These payments are Supplemental Security Income payments.
- December 1. The SSA sends the SSI payment on this day to beneficiaries.
- December 30. SSI eligible beneficiaries will receive their January payment on the last day of December.
This is due to a calendar irregularity, as the 1st is a holiday. After this date, many months of the year will also have this irregularity, so pay attention to the calendar.
