Social Security Changes in 2023: What You Need to Know

Tips for claiming Early Retirement Age and not going under financially

How can I increase my Social Security check in 2023?

Being a retiree in any of the United States of America has some benefits in the area of retirement benefits. The Social Security Administration is in charge of paying these benefits for people who have stopped working and want to take a break. While it is true that some requirements are necessary to receive these checks, most U.S. citizens meet them.

However, you should be very cautious in this regard. Receiving a Social Security check at the minimum amount is not the same as receiving one at the maximum amount. In the year 2022, the maximum amount of Social Security checks is $4,194 per month. This is achieved by maximizing all the details that influence the retirement check. But it’s not something within everyone’s reach. The vast majority of retirees can’t come up with this amount of money and the average SSA check is around $1,666 per month.

Despite this, next year the checks will increase a bit. This is due to the Cost of living adjustment. The COLA will increase all Social Security checks by 8.7%. A record amount that will keep a large portion of retirees from losing purchasing power. Still, it seems insufficient in many cases due to the high inflation of recent times.

The next Social Security check will be on December 14th. This is the first of the checks for retirees and is for all those who have accepted benefits. The only requirement is for retirees with accepted benefits and born between the 1st and 10th of the month. But not in the month of December exactly, but in any other month of the year. Are you on this list of payments?

Other Social Security payments in December

Within the December payments we find that the Social Security Administration will send payments on the following days:

  • December 21st. Payment for retirees born between the 11th and 20th of a month.
  • December 28th. Payment for pensioners born between the 21st and 31st of any month.

Those are the Social Security retirement payments. Still, retirees could receive an extra payment in this month of December. But only some retirees can receive it, since Supplemental Security Income is a benefit that only citizens with a low level of income and assets receive. You can find out all the conditions through the BEST tool.

The Social Security Supplemental Security Income payment is always sent on the 1st of each month. In the case of December, as we have already mentioned, a payment of this benefit will also be made on the 30th. However, this payment is not for the month of December, but for the month of January 2023.
