The Social Security Administration’s schedule for United States citizens’ pensions always follows the same pattern. This makes it much easier for families to organize their finances. In the month of January, knowing this information is even more important because of the difficult period after Christmas. For this reason, it is very important to always check the exact day on which a senior receives Social Security payments.
Thus, in order to know who collects on the second Wednesday of the month, it is necessary to meet only one requirement. In this sense, the important thing for the organization of the Social Security calendar is the day of birth. However, not the entire date of birth of the pensioner is important, but only the specific day. Therefore, the Social Security Administration divides pensioners into three different groups.
The first of these groups receives their benefit on the second Wednesday of the month. The second group of pensioners receives their Social Security check on the third Wednesday of the month. Finally, the third group of pensioners receives their retirement benefit on the fourth Wednesday of the month. There is also another payment, the Supplemental Security Income, which recipients always receive on the first of each month, with minor exceptions.
Requirement in 2023 to collect Social Security on the second Wednesday of the month
The first of the monthly Social Security payments is always on the second Wednesday of the month. This payment reaches retirees on the same day the SSA sends it if they have Direct Deposit activated. The requirement for Seniors to receive this check depends on their date of birth.
The group that belongs to the second Wednesday of the month Social Security collectors are those born between the 1st and 10th of the month. These retirees are the first to receive the pension check. This check is not to be confused with the Supplemental Security Income check, as SSI is the first check the SSA sends out during the month.
When do the rest of the retirees receive their pensions?
Well, as we mentioned before, the Social Security Administration sends out checks on the second, third and fourth Wednesday of the month. Therefore, this is the usual schedule for all months in 2023:
- Second Wednesday of the month. Retiree benefit for retirees born between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- Third Wednesday of the month. Social Security sends check to retirees born between the 11th and 20th of the month.
- Fourth Wednesday of the month. Pensioners born between the 21st and 31st of the month receive their benefits.
It should be noted that pensioners do not have to be born in the current month to collect that month’s check. Thus, pensioners born in May can receive the Social Security check for May and the rest of the months.
