Is it possible to get Disability Benefit and Supplemental Security Income this month?

This week thousands of beneficiaries will receive both Supplemental Security Income and Disability Benefit checks

If you meet the requirements you will get a Supplemental Security Income and a Disability Benefit in the same week

The large number of checks sent out by the United States Social Security Administration throughout the year makes life much easier for Americans. Both Supplemental Security Income and Disability Benefit recipients will be able to take advantage of these conveniences this week.

Getting two different checks before the end of the year seems impossible considering the day we are in. But the truth is that before the end of 2023 we could end up with two new checks in our bank account. It is also possible to cash only one of these two checks.

It is not necessary to have both checks in order to get them. In other words, you are not required to receive both the Supplemental Security Income payment and the Disability Benefit payment at the same time. They are two individual payments, which means that we can get the check on one of these days or on both days if we have both accepted.

The amount of each of the checks is completely individual, but we can set a maximum on each of them. The Supplemental Security Income payment will have a maximum of $943 and the Disability Benefit will have a maximum of $3,627. The former will not increase in 2024, since it already has the COLA added, while SSDI will increase by 3.2% starting in January.

HOW DO I GET SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME AND DISABILITY BENEFITS?

There is only one way to get Supplemental Security Income and Disability Benefit benefits this week: by meeting the eligibility criteria. If we meet the eligibility criteria we will have access to these two checks immediately. We may also get the second of these checks a few days later, but ideally as soon as possible.

To be eligible to get these two checks we have to pay attention to the following requirements:

  1. Activate Direct Deposit. This step is essential in order to get any Social Security payment, Disability or otherwise, immediately.
  2. Have your birthday between the 21st and 31st. This is one of the two requirements to get your Social Security payment today.
  3. Have had a retirement check since after 1997. This is the second requirement to cash your check today.
  4. Have approved Supplemental Security Income. Thanks to this we will be able to get the second of the checks, which is actually this benefit.

Because of this we will get the payment on two different days. The first payment comes out today from the Social Security Administration and is for group 4 retirees. The December 27th payment is for the above named beneficiaries.

Finally, on December 29th, the payment for Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries will arrive. This payment will include the increase in the 2024 COLA, since it actually belongs to this year’s payment schedule.
