Throughout the year, the Social Security Administration sends various benefits to retirees in the United States. And not only does it send the money to retirees, but also to other types of beneficiaries who for economic reasons may apply for another type of benefit. This particular benefit is the Supplemental Security Income and not all Americans can receive it.
Retirees over 65 years of age who have a low level of income can apply for this benefit. People with disabilities may also be eligible for this payment. To find out if a person is entitled to this Social Security check or not, there is the BEST tool. Thanks to this tool we can locate the type of benefit we can apply for.
Once we know if we are entitled to a Social Security payment, we just have to wait to apply for it. The Supplemental Security Income payment is not the same as the age or disability retirement payment. This payment is always made on the 1st of each month, although there are some exceptions. In fact, in the month of December we may have an exception because the calendar is a little different.
Upcoming Social Security payment
With this information about Supplemental Security Income in mind, it is good to know the days on which the Social Security Administration will send the money. There is a slight irregularity, as we discussed earlier, in the timing of the December payments. Usually, there is one payment per month of this benefit but in December there are two different payments.
- December 1st. This is the payment that the Social Security Administration sends related to the December Supplemental Security Income.
- December 30th. This payment does not actually belong to the month of December. It is the January Supplemental Security Income payment. This payment is moved forward to the last business day of December because the 1st of the first month of 2023 is a weekend and a holiday.
Although these are two different payments, there are more Social Security payments in December. The maximum payment for this benefit is $841 for individual beneficiaries.
Other SSA payments in December
The Social Security Administration will also send payments in December pertaining to retirement and disability pensions. The days will be the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month. On each of these days, a different group of retirees will receive this type of benefit.
To find out which day you will receive your retirement benefit, you only need to know the day of your birthday. This way, knowing the day of the payment you will not have to wait any longer, since you will be able to get organized before your Social Security payment arrives.
