In the United States, the beginning of a new month always brings with it the long-awaited Social Security check for retirees. However, not all pensioners will receive their check on the same day, as the Social Security Administration organizes beneficiaries into two main groups, each with their respective assigned payment date.
Furthermore, one of these two main groups is divided into three distinct subgroups, and the next Social Security payment will be directed exclusively to one of these three subgroups. Thus, the other major group will not receive the next retirement or disability pension check.
Distribution of Social Security Payments
The criteria for dividing these groups is based on the date the pension was applied for. One group includes those pensioners who applied before 1997, while the other group includes those who applied after 1997, regardless of the exact year. This classification is crucial in determining who will not receive the next payment from the Administration.
Social Security check recipients are not chosen at random. In fact, the next payment will omit two specific groups: pre-1997 retirees and post-1997 retirees who celebrate their birthdays on certain dates of the month. In particular, those whose birthdays fall between the 1st and 10th, as well as between the 21st and 31st, will not receive the next check.
Next Check Requirements and Payment Day
For beneficiaries in the first group, which are those who retired before 1997, they received their benefit in the first Social Security payment of the month, which will be April 3, 2024. If they retired before that year and have not yet received their check, they will likely need to claim the delayed payment.
On the other hand, post-1997 retirees with birthdays between May 1 and May 10 will receive their April payment on the 10th.
If you have a birthday after the 10th of any month, payments will be made as follows:
- 11-20: on April 17
- 21-31: April 24
It is important to remember that these payments may take up to 3 days and if you do not receive them, you should contact your Social Security office.
