Uric acid is a substance produced when the organism breaks down purines. These are produced in the organism, but we can also get them from some foods and beverages such as liver, anchovies, mackerel, beans or beer.
Most uric acid dissolves in the blood, reaches the kidneys and is excreted in the urine. However, when our organism produces too much uric acid or does not eliminate it in sufficient quantities, it can lead to serious problems called hyperuricemia.
When we reach this point, it is important to cleanse the organism to eliminate as much uric acid as possible and lower our levels.
One of the most obvious symptoms of excess uric acid is gout, which occurs when uric acid builds up in the joints of the feet and hands. This condition is very painful. The good news is that it can be prevented.
How can uric acid be reduced?
To reduce uric acid, the first step is to change your diet. The most important thing is to limit the intake of purines as these substances are converted into uric acid. Therefore, a diet low in this type of food leads to a marked decrease in blood acidity. In particular, we should avoid foods such as sardines, anchovies, herring, offal, cauliflower, asparagus, pork, beef and lamb, shellfish and broth cubes.
Do not consume alcoholic beverages. Alcohol increases the blood lactate level, which in turn inhibits uric acid excretion. Remember that beer has a high purine content.
Drink plenty of water, if possible at least 2 liters. This promotes the introduction of uric acid in the kidneys. We can also make natural juices, infusions, soups, etc. It is preferable to choose some type of carbonated water as it alkalizes the urine and promotes elimination.
It is advisable to replace fatty fish and red meat with dairy products and eggs rich in high quality proteins. Legumes are also a source of vegetable protein and fiber, such as chickpeas, soybeans or beans. In the case of lentils, it is better to cook them with rice to obtain a higher quality protein. We can also consume seaweed and nuts on a regular basis.
We need to exercise moderately because when you have high uric acid levels it is very important to maintain a healthy weight. If you are overweight, you should lose weight gradually. Sudden weight loss also leads to an increase in acid levels.
