If the numbers are 200 to 499 mg/dL, it means it is at a high level. And if the screening test shows a value of 500 mg/dL or more, it means that the person has a high content of that type of fat.
When this type of fat is outside the normal range, it increases the risk of hardening of the arteries and the risk of stroke, heart attack, pancreatitis or heart disease.
In some cases, this condition may signify underlying diseases such
- Type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.
- Metabolic syndrome.
- Low thyroid hormone levels (hypothyroidism).
- Certain rare genetic conditions that affect the way the body converts fat into energy.
Some medications may also contribute to increased triglyceride levels in the blood:
- Estrogen and progestin.
- Some immunosuppressants.
- Some HIV medications.
How to regulate high triglyceride levels?
The portal Salud 180 highlights the properties of several foods to help reduce these levels of fat in the blood:
- 2 tablespoons of oatmeal.
