Across the United States, the Social Security payment schedule for January 2023 retirement checks began on January 3. The benefit for all types of retirees reached thousands of U.S. households. To collect this check, they had to meet certain conditions.
Not all Americans were eligible to collect this new Social Security retirement check, as they need to be part of a specific group. But if they were part of this group, they received the check because they retired before 1997.
Retirees got a maximum benefit of up to $4,873, although that does not mean that all Social Security beneficiaries can get such a large check.
Once the first check of the year is received, when do the rest of those who retired after 1997 receive their Social Security payments?
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK ON JANUARY 10
Once the January 3 check has been delivered, the next Social Security check on January 10 will be only for the first of the group of retirees who have reached their birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.
The type of benefit does not matter in determining the day of payment, but the year of retirement does. Thus, a pre-1997 retiree will have received the benefit on January 3. There is no other mandatory requirement to obtain this check, although it is true that it is mandatory to activate a collection method to obtain immediate payment.
If we activate Direct Deposit we will be able to obtain this payment on January 3. If we do not activate this Social Security payment method, we will have to wait for the next few days to get the money. Everything will depend on the form of payment, but in the case of belonging to this group 1 we will only have to wait a few days.
OTHER RETIREMENT PAYMENTS IN JANUARY 2024
In addition to this payment, the Social Security Administration will send three more payments to United States retirees. Each of these payments will go to a specific group of beneficiaries, so we must take a good look at the requirements to determine our payday.
Here are the other three days of retirement check mailings in January 2024:
- Jan. 10: Post-1997 retirees with birthdays between the 1st and 10th collect on this day.
- Jan. 17: Post-1997 beneficiaries get their Social Security benefit on this day if they have birthdays between the 11th and 20th.
- Jan. 24: Any post-1997 retiree with a birthday between the 21st and 31st can collect on this day.
And remember that the method of collection is key to determining whether we collect on the same day of mailing or not. Similarly, it is also good to remember that the type of benefit does not affect getting a check on these days.
