The 2023 Social Security payments have now run out, which makes the United States retirement schedule start running with the 2024 COLA. Therefore, we will have to wait a bit to get a new benefit, but not too long. The next payment will arrive the following week but eligibility is mandatory.
This new 2024 payment will be for the first of the retiree groups. So if you have a Social Security benefit and are waiting to get it in January you should know if you are eligible for this group or not. In this regard, there will still be three other payments in the month, but we will only be able to get one of them.
Therefore, knowing the calendar well is fundamental, as it will help us to organize our household economy more completely. This way it is very easy to know on which day we will be able to get the payment. Well, what is certain is that we will be able to know which day the Social Security Administration will send the payment to our pocket, but getting it on that day or not will depend on whether we have activated the fastest and most efficient collection method.
HOW TO GET THE FIRST SOCIAL SECURITY OF 2024?
There is only one requirement to be included in the group of beneficiaries eligible by the Social Security Administration for the first check of 2024. Another requirement must also be met if we want to get the payment on the same day it is sent.
Thus, only retirees with a pre-1997 benefit can receive the first of these 2024 payments. This payment will be on the 3rd day of January, which is the first Wednesday of the month and of the year. The rest of the payments will arrive in the following weeks.
In order to collect the payment on the same day it is mandatory to activate Direct Deposit. This will make the payment appear immediately in our bank account. Otherwise, the money may take up to three days, depending on our bank.
But in the case of not being part of this group we do not have to worry, as there are other payments we could get. Each group collects its benefit on different days and you can collect this benefit in January on one of the other days.
JANUARY 2024 RETIREMENT PAYMENT SCHEDULE
After the check on the 3rd day of January there are three more payments in this month. These payments are for the other groups of retirees. Therefore, if we have a retirement benefit and meet the requirements for the other paydays we will be able to enjoy.
These are the requirements and the full Social Security days in January 2024 other than the payment on the 3rd:
- January 10th. Payment for post-1997 retirees with birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month.
- January 17th. Retirees with birthdays between the 11th and 20th and a post-1997 benefit are paid on this day.
- January 24th. Any Social Security beneficiary with a post-1997 check and a birthday between the 21st and 31st is paid on this day.
