Citizens who have a United States Social Security Supplemental Security Income benefit may get an extra payment. And, what’s more, this extra payment will carry with it an increase over previous payments. It can certainly be great news for all Americans who are waiting to get a new payment.
The bad news is that not all Americans will get this advance check. In fact, the payment belongs to the January 2024 calendar, but due to an irregularity in the calendar, those Americans will get the Supplemental Security Income early. But in order to get it, several requirements must be met. Otherwise, it would be impossible to cash these checks.
Also, having a Supplemental Security Income payment does not imply receiving an extra payment in December. This extra payment, as we have already mentioned, is actually an advance on a different payment. Therefore, having this benefit does not imply collecting two payments on this day, but it is possible to collect only the December payment as usual and then collect the corresponding payment in January.
Everything will depend on whether we meet all the requirements or not. If we meet these requirements we will be able to enjoy a Supplemental Security Income bonus check in which the 2024 COLA will be included. So we should keep an eye on these payments to see if we will get an extra benefit.
HOW TO GET THE DECEMBER SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY INCOME BONUS?
In order to get this extra benefit we must meet just a few requirements. Some of these requirements are actually standard requirements for this type of benefit, but we may have failed to meet them. So we should take a good look at the list in case our personal and work situation has changed in the last month.
These are all the requirements to get this December bonus:
Have the Supplemental Security Income benefit accepted in advance. It is not possible to collect the extra check if we have not previously applied for the benefit.
- Be age 65 or older or have a disability.
- Have low resources.
- Have a low monthly income.
- Activate Direct Deposit as a payment method.
If we meet all the requirements except Direct Deposit, we will be able to cash the check in January. But in order to get the payment on December 29th it is necessary to have this payment method activated.
This is the only way to receive a Social Security Supplemental Security Income benefit early. The rest of the payments for beneficiaries without this payment method will arrive in the first days of January, but always after the holidays.
