Unlike other types of benefits in the United States, Social Security Disability benefits arrive only once a month. This monthly benefit may arrive on one of the 4 days that the Administration sends it.

Regardless of the amount of the check we are going to get, citizens who collect a Disability benefit may already know if they will have the new check arriving next week. This check will be the second of the October payments and in order to get it, it is necessary to meet certain requirements.

However, these requirements have nothing to do with the type of benefit or the amount we get. What we do have to take into account is both the year of retirement and the date of birth of the beneficiary.

Having these two elements under control we will be able to know if we will get next week’s check or not. The rest of the disability retirees will also get a check in October, but on a different day. Do you already know if you can collect the new Social Security payment?

WHO WILL GET THE NEW SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY PAYMENT?

Despite what many Americans think, the type of retirement does not affect the day we collect the Social Security benefit. This is different if we collect a Supplemental Security Income payment. This other benefit is on a totally different, individual day.

But both the disability check and the old age retirement check (or widow’s check, for example) arrive on the same day. The only thing that has to be fulfilled is several requirements.

For example, if a retiree has a payment prior to 1997 they will get check on the 3rd day of the month usually. In the month of October this has been the case, but post-1997 retirees have up to 3 different days to collect the benefit.

The next day of the payment days will be October 11th. On this day, retirees with a post-1997 benefit will cash their Social Security disability check. However, it is important to note that it is also mandatory to have a birthday between the 1st and 10th of any month.

Just by meeting these two requirements we will be able to enjoy the new disability benefit of up to $3,627, the maximum amount that was reached after adding 8.7% of the COLA in the current year.
