In just a few weeks, a large group of citizens in the United States will be able to enjoy two different checks in just 24 hours. In order to be eligible to get these Social Security checks, it is mandatory to take into account that we have to be within specific parameters. If this is not the case, we will not be able to obtain the benefit on this day, but will have to check the rest of the payment schedule in May 2025.
If we have accepted the Social Security payment, we won’t have to worry about anything, but it is true that the more information we have about it, the better the quality of life will be, as it will help us to organize our household finances efficiently. And getting two Social Security checks within the same 24-48 hours is not common, so we have to look carefully at all the requirements.
Requirements for getting two Social Security checks in May
In the first week of May, the Social Security Administration will send two checks. On the one hand, the payment for May 1st. On the other hand, the payment for May 2nd. This last payment, for May 2nd, should be sent on the 3rd, but the payment is brought forward because the 3rd is a weekend.
Thus, we have to take into account some fundamental aspects if we want to receive payments for both days and, moreover, to receive them on the same day they are sent. Pay attention to the requirements:
- Have an accepted check from Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
- Have an accepted Social Security retirement payment from before May 1997.
- Have activated Direct Deposit as a collection method.
These three requirements are mandatory to obtain a payment on May 1st and another one immediately afterwards on May 2nd. If you don’t meet the last of these requirements, nothing will happen, as the payment can still arrive. The only thing you should bear in mind is that the check will take a few days to appear, so you will probably have to wait until the following week to receive it.
How much money will I get from Social Security in May?
The amount of Supplemental Security Income is variable, since the check depends on the beneficiary’s income. Thus, the usual thing is to collect the same amount every month, but if our usual income varies, this benefit can vary. Thus, citizens can receive a maximum check of $967 for individual applicants.
On the other hand, the Social Security check does not vary at any time during the year, except for the first month, since in this month we find the COLA. The check we get in May 2025 will be the same as what we got in the previous months of this year, so we already know the amount we can receive.
The maximum check for this benefit this year is $5,108, but not all Americans are eligible for such a large check. This payment may be for that amount, but rarely does a citizen ever receive a Social Security payment of that size.
