Supplemental Security Income checks in the United States are always mailed by the Social Security Administration on the 1st day of each month. However, there are exceptions to this rule, as there are months in which Supplemental Security Income recipients do not receive a check.
On the other hand, a Supplemental Security Income recipient may also receive a check from Social Security on two different days. This is not common, but it is possible. The SSI check in March will arrive twice.
As for the recipients who will receive this double-check, there are no exceptions. Therefore, if you have Supplemental Security Income accepted, you will receive a double Social Security benefit check in March. It doesn’t matter what your birthday is or why you received Supplemental Security Income.
When will Social Security pay the two SSI checks in March?
Supplemental Security Income for March will arrive on the 1st of the month. This is because there are no irregularities in the calendar and therefore there are no problems. We will receive the March payment just like every other regular month.
However, Social Security will not send this SSI check in April, but will send it in March. This is because April 1 is a weekend. Therefore, SSI is sent out on the immediately preceding business day. We will have no problem receiving it, since Social Security will still send it, but we do need to keep it in mind for our financial arrangements.
Other SSI payments during the year
In most other months, Social Security will send SSI payments without delay or change. This means that every 1st day of the month SSA will pay SSI checks to all SSI recipients. This will be the case for all but the following months in 2023:
- January
- April
- July
- October
In these months, Social Security will not send out an SSI check, but will send it on the immediately preceding business day. Therefore, we will get a check, no matter what.
In order to receive a check the same day it is mailed by the Social Security Administration, we must activate Direct Deposit. If we do not have Direct Deposit activated, it will take up to 3 days for the money to clear. Therefore, if we do not activate Direct Deposit, we may not receive the money before the end of the month, so we will not feel that the money has been sent ahead of time.
